This Week on Purple Day: Hickety Pickety

This Week on Purple Day

Every Purple Day, or Monday, we are inside the schoolhouse for circle time and storytime.
We enjoy singing and reciting nature-based, seasonal songs and poems during circle time. We learn new verses for our songs and poems as the month progresses. This week we are learning the final verses to our songs and poems for this month’s circle time. We also practice a deep breathing exercise on Mondays.

After circle time, we hear a story together. We listen to nature stories and folk tales during the third and fourth weeks of the month. Today we hear the story of Hickety Pickety, a chicken who wants to be a mama so badly she hides one of her eggs instead of giving it to the farmer as she usually does. This story was adapted from a story of the same name by Suzanne Down. Used with permission. See more of Suzanne’s work at www.junipertreepuppets.com

Purple Day is a podcast from Storytime in the Schoolhouse. Our Purple Day podcast episodes are the audio from our Monday videos. Storytime Members can access five weekly videos, including puppet shows, on Thursdays and Fridays. They also have access to corresponding activities and curricula. Every Yellow Day, or Wednesday, we are outside for Storytime, and we go on a field trip to see someone in the community or visit a new place. This week we visit Farmer John and meet all his farm animals.
