About the Story: The Mitten
In Becca’s version of this Russian folktale, an old man goes for a walk in the woods and unknowingly drops his mitten on the forest floor. Forest creatures find the mitten and, one by one, climb inside to take a warm winter’s nap.
I love this book by Jan Brett, sharing her version of the Mitten story. It’s super sweet with lovely illustrations to match.
In my early childhood program, I tell the story for several weeks before presenting a puppet show and having the children act it out together. We would put a large sheet over a table or a couple of playstands and create a giant “mitten.” I let each child choose which animal they want to be. Then, I tell the story and one by one, the children have a chance to act out their part and climb inside of the mitten.
It’s such a delightful experience for all!
