The Lantern

The Purple Day Podcast is the audio from our Monday episodes of Storytime in the Schoolhouse. Please note: Storytime is written and recorded for the screen. Some elements of Storytime will transfer better than others.

This sweet tale from France is appropriate to tell when the nights are long and dark. In this story, a little girl carries a lantern to light her path when the wind blows it out. She asks several animals and people to help her relight her lantern but none can help. Instead, she climbs the mountain to find Father Sun and asks him for his help. He has been watching her and comes down and relights her lantern. She then returns down the path, sharing her light with all the animals and humans she sees along the way.
