Green Grass Grew All Around | A spring circle time song for preschool

circle time

Do you wish you knew seasonal songs to sing with your preschooler or kindergartener? I imagined I would sing all these lovely songs with my children. Then, my children were born, and I had no idea what songs to sing or where to find them. Fast forward several years and a few Waldorf-inspired trainings later, I found myself with a collection of beautiful nature-based, seasonal songs. I now share these songs with parents like you!  (Tangent: Forget the idea that you can’t sing. Your child doesn’t care. I promise. I sing out of tune, and people pay me to sing with their children.)

Every spring, the children in my Children’s Garden program would nearly burst at the seams singing this song. This is a hard song for younger children! Start by singing the song very slowly and speed up as you learn the words.

Circle time Song: The Prettiest Little Tree

One day I saw, I saw a tree.

The prettiest little tree that you ever did see

*And the tree was in a hole and the hole was in the ground.

And the green grass grew all around, all around

And the green grass grew all around.

And on that tree, there was a branch

The prettiest little branch that you ever did see.

And the branch was on the tree

*repeat

And on that branch there was a twig

The prettiest little twig that you ever did see

And the twig was on the branch

And the branch was on the tree

*Repeat

And on that twig, there was a nest

The prettiest little nest that you ever did see

And the nest was on the twig

And the twig was on the branch

And the branch was on the tree

*Repeat

And in that nest, there was an egg

The prettiest little egg that you ever did see

And the egg was in the nest

And the nest was on the twig

And the twig was on the branch

And the branch was on the tree

*Repeat
